The SSU has detained an agent of russian special services, who was collecting intelligence on location and movement of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Territorial Defence, reserve airfields and military training grounds in southern Odesa region. Below is their statement in full:

His messages to the enemy included:

  • accurate coordinates of defence facilities on the map;
  • detailed descriptions of the facilities’ condition, material used for their construction, purpose and use by the military, surrounding territory;
  • number of personnel and military equipment at such sites and their movement;
  • number of equipped fortifications.

The occupiers used this information to plan the activity of their sabotage groups and conduct massive targeted missile attacks.

According to the investigation, the traitor is a local resident, an employee of a state medical institution. He openly expressed his pro-russian views, in particular in secure Telegram channels ran by russian special services.

He received an offer to cooperate with the occupiers after he initiated contact with the special services of the aggressor state through a messenger app on his own phone.

The informant passed collected intelligence through secure communication channels to his russian supervisor.

The agent concealed his activities to, according to him, avoid ‘trouble at the state institution.’

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion of treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU). The court has decided to keep the suspect in custody.

The investigation is underway to identify and bring to justice all those involved in the unlawful activity.

The SSU Office in Odesa Region carried out the operation together with the SSU Main Office in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions under the procedural supervision of Odesa Region Prosecutor’s Office.
