American fast-food chain McDonald’s is returning to Ukraine. In an email on Thursday, august 11, employees were informed that stores will be reopened in Kyiv and elsewhere in the coming months.
McDonald’s made the decision to close its branches in early March, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In a statement issued at the time, the company said:
“The conflict in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis in Europe has caused unspeakable suffering to innocent people. As a System, we join the world in condemning aggression and violence and praying for peace.
“Our number one priority from the start of this crisis has been – and will remain – our people.”
However, with numerous other fast-food chains, including KFC, already reopened across Ukraine, McDonald’s has now decided to once again open its doors.
“We’ve spoken extensively to our employees who have expressed a strong desire to return to work,” Paul Pomroy, senior vice president, in a message to employees. “In recent months, the belief that this would support a small but important sense of normalcy has grown stronger.”
The hamburger chain has continued to pay its more than 10,000 Ukrainian employees for the past five months even though their 109 stores have been shuttered.
Meanwhile, in May, McDonalds sold their 850 franchises in Russia to businessman Alexander Govor.
