Russian invaders have dismantled the roof and ensemble of colored stained glass windows of the Golden Cabinet in the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai, occupied Crimea.
“Russian occupiers continue to destroy unique cultural pearl of my people-the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai. We have information about destruction of amazing Golden Cabinet of Kirim Gerai Khan, in which the occupiers dismantled the roof & ensemble of colored stained glass windows. Russian terrorists know nothing else but to kill, destroy everything beautiful, erase the national memory & identity of my people,” Emine Dzheppar, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, posted on https://twitter.com/EmineDzheppar/status/1603734166599860225 on Dec. 16.
The diplomat, as the President of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO, called on UNESCO to respond appropriately to Russia’s crimes against cultural heritage in occupied Crimea.
As reported, in September 2021, UNESCO published a report stating that the "restoration" works at the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai "create a real threat of destroying the historical and cultural value of the monument."
