“In four short years, everybody was doing great. Everybody was thriving like never before,” Trump said.
The former president said that when he left the White House the economy was recovering rapidly from the downturn caused by the coronavirus epidemic.
“We are a nation in decline! We are a failing nation!” he said, reminding supporters of the sharp rise in inflation, which has now reached its highest level in 40 years.
Trump also criticized U.S. President Joe Biden for what he described as his inability to cope with the war in Ukraine.
He also claimed the Republican Party could not afford to nominate “a politician or conventional candidate” if it wanted to win back the White House.
Trump’s nomination papers reached the Federal Election Commission shortly before his announcement. However, in order to be the Republican Party’s presidential nominee, Trump will have to compete and succeed in primaries.
President Biden reacted to Donald Trump’s announcement to run for president in 2024 by captioning a video on Twitter with the words: “Donald Trump has failed America.”
In the short video, published on Nov. 16, the American leader recalled the so-called “achievements” of his predecessor, including setting up the economy for the rich, record high unemployment and attacking the healthcare system.
At a news conference at the White House on Nov. 10, Biden announced plans to run for a second term, adding he would officially announce his decision in early 2023.
