In a phone call with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Ukraine’s head of the President’s Office Andriy Yerkmak stressed the importance of timely supply of weapons and ammunition, the President’s Office posted on its website Saturday morning – about an hour after Ukraine shot down Russian missiles that had been launched at Kyiv.

Ukrainians are anticipating more Russian attacks in its ongoing invasion, particularly on energy infrastructure as winter approaches and Russia attempts to freeze Ukraine into submission.

The two security advisors also discussed the situation at the front line. Ukraine has been fending off repeated Russian attacks on the town of Avdiivka – about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Donetsk city – which Russia has been attempting to encircle. The Ukrainians have managed to hold on to a bridgehead on the east bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region.

The two discussed the situation in the Middle East – where Israel has been carrying out an offensive in Gaza – and the importance of avoiding escalation and civilian casualties.

They also talked about implementing the Peace Formula with special attention to the results of the third meeting of national security advisors and foreign policy advisors on the points of the Formula implementation, which took place in Malta.

National security and foreign policy advisors to the leaders of 66 countries had gathered at that Oct. 28-29 meeting in preparation for an eventual global peace summit with world leaders.

“Andriy Yermak expressed gratitude to US President Joseph Biden, his entire team, both houses of the US Congress and the American people for their strong support of Ukraine and Ukrainians in the fight for freedom, independence and democratic values in Europe,” the website of the President’s Office reported.
