Partisans in the city of Mariupol told Kyiv Post that an explosion had sounded from under the hood of the car, followed by smoke rising.
The partisans did not reveal details of the operation, because “if we reveal them, then we will not be able to repeat it.”
But the source said that an explosive device was placed near the driver’s seat, under the hood of the car.
“The explosive device was made from improvised means, since we have them in the city,” the Mariupol partisans told Kyiv Post.
“The target was a policeman actively involved in ‘filtration,’” the source said, referring to the occupation authorities’ process of vetting residents with pro-Ukrainian sympathies, often by means of torture.
It is not yet known whether the owner of the car survived.
“We don’t know if the target is still alive, as we were forced to leave the site of the explosion in order not to be detained,” the partisans added.
“Whether this is the last surprise for today on the Day of the Russian police – we will see.”

Today’s attack was the latest in a spate of apparent assassinations aimed at decapitating and undermining Russian occupation authorities.
On Nov. 8 a Russian-backed politician was killed in a car bomb in the occupied eastern Ukrainian region of Luhansk, local media reported. Ukraine’s military intelligence told Kyiv Post it was the work of the local Ukrainian underground operating in the region.
“And this will happen to every traitor,” a representative of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR), Andriy Yusov said, commenting on Luhansk car bomb.
