Ukraine has repelled yet another wave of intensive assaults by Russian troops on eastern stronghold Avdiivka, but a local official said the fight is far from over.
“The third wave will definitely happen. The enemy is regrouping after a second wave of unsuccessful attacks,” said the Head of Avdiivka Military Administration Vitaly Barabash.

Barabash added that Russia is likely “ready” for its third assault wave, which is on hold at the moment due to poor weather conditions.
An earlier Kyiv Post report stated that Russia captured a village north of Avdiivka and is now preparing its assaults on the local chemical plant located in northern Avdiivka, which could pave the way for its offensive inside the city of Avdiivka itself.
Russia currently controls areas north, east and south of Avdiivka.
Avdiivka has seen heavy combats in recent weeks as Russia struggles to capture the city for a symbolic victory despite suffering all-time-high losses in both equipment and personnel.
Avdiivka lies 20 kilometers north of Donetsk city, the capital of one of the four Ukrainian regions officially annexed by Russia through an illegal referendum since the full-scale invasion.
Imprisoned militia leader Igor Girkin has been pessimistic over Russia’s ongoing Avdiivka offensive, claiming that it has led to “very serious losses in manpower and equipment” and will likely have an adverse effect on Russia’s abilities to carry out offensive and defensive operations by spring 2024.
