On Wednesday, July 13, the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushylin, declared that the executive service had prepared a place for foreign war prisoners.

Russian media outlet RIA Novosti quoted him as saying: “In the executive service of the Ministry of Justice of the DPR, everything is ready in line with current legislation.”

Pushylin claimed that foreign war prisoners recently sentenced to death have not applied for a pardon

, and that the intermediate stage of the international tribunal for Ukrainian war prisoners may occur in the DPR before the end of July.

In an interview to Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, Pushylin emphasized that evidence of prisoners’ guilt should be clearly shown to the international community so that no one could doubt the enormity of their crimes.

“Everything will be prepared,” the head of the DPR stressed.

He also provided assurance that the prisoners would be allowed to defend themselves and planned to invite foreign journalists to the tribunal.

In answer to Solovyov’s question of where exactly the tribunal would take place, the head of the self-proclaimed DPR said that it would most likely be in Mariupol.

On July 9, Russian correspondent Dmitry Steshin reported that two Azov Regiment fighters were sentenced to death in the DPR. That followed the People’s Council of the DPR canceling a moratorium on the death penalty.

Denis Pushylin is a Ukrainian collaborator with Russia. He is the second leader of the terrorist quasi DPR state following the assassination of the first leader Oleksandr Zakharchenko in August 2018.

He was the organizer of pro-Russian demonstrations in Donetsk in April 2014, deputy of the self-proclaimed “governor” of Donetsk region Pavlo Gubarev, and self-proclaimed “speaker of the DPR” (2015-2018).

On July 18, after fleeing to Moscow, he announced his resignation but continued to perform duties of the head of the DPR.
