Egis, with headquarters in Paris, is an international player active in the consulting, construction engineering and mobility service sectors. It has just issued a statement about its role in linking the railway networks of Ukraine and Moldova with that of the European Union.

Ukraine and Moldova are facing logistical and economic challenges as a result of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. The railway integration project will increase the resilience of the transport system and the logistic chains by reducing their vulnerability to exceptional events, such as the current blockade of Ukrainian ports.

Rail transport can play a key role by revealing the existing logistics potential, boosting post-war trade, and supporting Ukraine's reconstruction.

In July 2023, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank published a strategy for the integration of the railway networks of Ukraine, Moldova, and the EU. An Egis team assisted with this crucial project that will improve connectivity with the EU and increase the capacity of the new export corridors. Besides, the project will ensure an environmentally safe, climate-friendly, and competitive transport offer, which is the foundation for future investments.

Egis signed a contract for the “Support to the Pre-feasibility study for a new EU standard-gauge railway corridor connecting Poland, Ukraine, Romania and Moldova” in April 2023. Within the project framework, the Egis team worked with JASPERS (Joint Assistance in Supporting Projects in European Regions, a partnership between the European Commission and the EIB).
