Sweden has continued to strongly support Ukraine in face of Russia’s full scale invasion that began on February 24 of this year.
According to the Ukrainian Ambassador to Sweden, Andriy Plakotniuk, Sweden has contributed 395 million Euros of military, financial, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the war’s start. Moreover, Sweden has welcomed 42,000 Ukrainians and given them “temporarily displaced person” status, thus allowing them to stay in the country. Roughly a third, 13,000, of the Ukrainian refugees are children.

Sweden has given out a great deal of public assistance to Ukrainian refugees, including for cost of living and free usage of various government services, such as museums.
Stockholm has been conscientious in helping the newly arrived Ukrainians to adjust, including helping them to find jobs and for the kids to continue learning. As few Ukrainians, presumably, speak Swedish, there have been grassroots efforts to help the Ukrainian children attend summer camps and other events so that they can begin to learn the language before the start of the new school year next month.
According to the Ambassador, there have been five defense assistance packages from Sweden to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began, including diverse types of assistance in the spheres of economics, finance, and humanitarian. It is expected that Sweden will be giving more support to Ukraine in the near future.

The optimistic outlook for future cooperation was backed by statements by the Swedish Defense Minister who said that his nation was planning to work with Ukraine in the spheres of training for ukrainian military members, using Swedish companies to produce high-quality defense equipment for Ukraine, and in doing trainings for the Ukrainian military’s service members.
