Kyiv's Residents Advised not to Relax on City's Beaches Because of Safety Concerns

Usually, by the end of May, the capital’s beaches along the Dnipro River are beginning to attract sunbathers and swimmers after a long winter.

This year, however, Kyiv residents have been advised to avoid the beaches due to security requirements.

Petro Panteleev, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, said in his Telegram channel that residents and city visitors are strongly advised not to visit beaches due to the number of enemy attacks on the capital, as there are no air raid shelters on Kyiv beaches.

At the same time, however, the Kharkiv region is thinking about opening seven beaches, Serhiy Kolosovsky, head of the emergency prevention department of the State Emergency Service of the Kharkiv region, said during a news briefing. Yet this would not apply to territories that were occupied or located close to the front line.

Panteleev also reminded Kyiv residents that there is a ban on visiting forests around the capital. Part of the forest area was a war zone, due to unexploded munitions still there. City services will make sure that there are warning signs with relevant information in the dangerous areas.
