An unsealed indictment by the US Justice Department in the state of Maryland reveals that a married couple “conspired” to allegedly convey confidential information to Russia in relation to Ukraine and the war.

The eight-count indictment alleges that Jamie Lee Henry, 39, and his wife, Anna Gabrielian, 36, offered information to the Russian Embassy via an email and later met with an undercover agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

They subsequently “conspired to cause harm to the United States by providing confidential health information of Americans associated with the United States government and military to Russia,” a US Justice Department news release says.

The health information was supposed to be provided to their access to records at an unnamed medical institution in Baltimore, Maryland and at the Fort Bragg US Army base in North Carolina.

It had the “potential for the Russian government to gain insights into the medical conditions of individuals associated with the United States government and military in order to exploit this information,” the US Justice Department statement said.

During a meeting with the FBI agent, Gabrielian told him that “she was motivated by patriotism toward Russia to provide any assistance she could to Russia, even if it meant being fired or going to jail,” the indictment says.

Berezhinskaya, a theatre director, had railed against Russia’s actions in Ukraine, saying Moscow’s soldiers were killing civilians and destroying cities in a naked land grab.

Henry is a doctor and major in the US Army, who held a secret-level security clearance.

The trial of Gabrielian and Henry is slated for May 22. According to the Baltimore Banner, the undercover FBI agent who courted the couple is expected to appear under heavy security and in “light disguise,” federal prosecutors said in recent court papers.

The couple intends to claim they were entrapped.
