Speaking on national television, Deputy Minister of Energy Farid Safarov has reported that Ukraine will be forced to raise electricity tariffs to prepare the country's power system for the upcoming winter.
The government and the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities are currently assessing by how much the tariff will need to be increased. According to Safarov, such a decision is unavoidable, as the energy industry has to recover and brace for a potentially harsh winter.

Safarov noted that Ukraine had received aid from international partners, such as equipment and funds amounting to EUR 150 million from the EU for the energy support fund and a EUR 200 million grant from the World Bank. Despite this, the deputy minister acknowledged, the assistance received was still not sufficient.
To address the concerns of vulnerable populations, Safarov said that financial support would be provided from revenues from electricity exports or aid from partners. He added that the support would be extended to those in dire need to enable them to pay for their electricity bills.
