A number of explosions were heard in Kyiv on Saturday morning, with authorities saying Russian missiles had struck key infrastructure in the captial.

Unusually, sirens alerting residents to the danger sounded shortly after the explosions were heard at around 9:30am.

According to Mayor Klitschko they occurred in the Dneprovsky district of Kyiv and he urged residents to "stay in shelters!".

Fragments of a rocket fell in the Golosiivskiy district without causing any casulaties, Klitschko added.

The city administration said an infrastructure facility had been hit.

The all clear sounded just after 11am in Kyiv.

In the northeastern Kharkiv region, "the enemy launched another missile attack on critical infrastructure and industrial facilities," governor Oleg Synegubov said.

There could be emergency power cuts in the city of Kharkiv, the second largest in Ukraine, and in the surrounding region, Synegubov warned.

Attacks were also reported in the southern Zaporizhzhia region.

The head of the central region of Cherkasy Igor Taburets said that "the enemy is attacking the territory of Ukraine again" and that he expected large-scale alerts around midday.

Ukraine's capital has been on high alert and another mass-missile attack from Russia has been expected.

On Jan. 11, Nataliya Humenyuk, head of the press center of the Ukrainian Defense Forces South, told Suspilne TV there were signs of an impending attack.
