Kherson regional Governor Yaroslav Yanushevych has said that the Russian occupiers shelled the Kherson region 90 times in the past 24 hours using artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, mortars and tanks.

One person was killed and five were severely wounded due to the shelling. Six fires broke out in the region following the Jan. 11 bombardment.

Russians shelled the city of Kherson 27 times and attacked residential areas . Shells hit a maternity hospital and private apartment buildings.

"Russian invaders attacked the perinatal center in Kherson. A shell fired by the enemy caused the center in Kherson to catch fire," Yanushevich reported. One employee of the center was injured.

It is understood that the children's department and doctors' offices were damaged

 

"Experts are now [examining the aftermath] of the attack by the occupants against women, children and medics," the governor added.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) liberated Kherson from Russian occupation on Nov. 11. However, there are still Russian troops on the left (eastern) bank of the Dnipro river. Since the area’s liberation, the Russian army has been constantly shelling Kherson, terrorizing the city and wider region, and striking at civilian objects. According to the AFU, there is no military objective in these attacks.

On Dec. 23, two civilians were killed by shelling in Kherson. Prior to that, two civilians were killed and two injured on Dec. 15. The day before, there were three dead and 13 wounded following Russian strikes. Among the dead was an eight-year-old boy.

Despite great difficulty, the authorities are working in to restore critical infrastructure in the city after it was destroyed by the occupants. The power supply has been restored several times, but Russia is continuing to attack substations and power lines with its ongoing shelling.
